On Wednesday, the House of Representatives held a plenary and concluded that the movie industry is culpable.

Yuls Edochie, in his post, thinks that Nollywood is “only showing what happens in society.”

The 40-year-old actor also said that ritual killings predate Nollywood, as such it cannot be the cause of the social malady.

He wrote, “From when I was a kid in the eighties I started hearing about ritual killing in Nigeria. Then there was no Nollywood,”

He went on to say that “hunger and poverty,” are responsible for why people take to crime, and added that when they are tackled, criminality will “go away.”

He added,  “Hunger and poverty make people to do crime. No be Nollywood cause am. Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty. A hungry man is an angry man.”

The social media post from the popular actor generated mixed reactions; while some people agreed with him, others think that Nollywood movies encourage ritual killings.
