Renowned novelist, Chimamanda Adichie has decried the state of Nigeria, noting that the most populous black nation is in disarray.

The author of ‘Purple Hibiscus’ stated this on Monday while delivering the keynote speech at the ongoing Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Lagos.

“Nigeria is in disarray. Things are hard and getting harder by the day. We can’t be safe when there is no rule of law. Nigerians are starved of heroes to look up to. Late Dora Akunyili and Gani Gawehinmi were heroes that Nigerians looked up to before now.

“Unfortunately that era has gone. I believe that NBA is in a position to give the nation heroes that we can look up to to lead the nation,” Chimamanda said.

Chimamanda is a known friend and supporter of Obi. They are also from the same state.

While celebrating Obi’s 61st birthday in July, Chimamanda said in a Facebook post that she could not wait to call him “my president.”

“I cannot wait for February 25, 2023, when I, with personal pride in you and with hope for what Nigeria can become, will cast my vote for you and your running mate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed,” she added.
