He advised members of the House to be cautious and wise in choosing a speaker who would be selfless and carry everyone along in decision making.

“The next speaker should not be egocentric. He should be a team player and has the interest to take legislature to higher level.

“He should be someone who cares about institutional building and who take the issue of legislature seriously,’’ he said.

The lawmaker said that all the returning aspirants were his close friends, and he had no cause to doubt the ability of whoever emerged victorious.

He advised that the contenders should not be carried away by perceived glamour of the office of Speaker, but the challenges that accompany it.

Ikuforiji, who had served for 10 years as Speaker, apologised for whatever he might have done wrong.

He said that any candidate who was privileged of being elected the speaker would have to leverage on his achievements.

The Deputy Speaker, Mr Taiwo Kolawole, expressed his appreciation to his colleagues for their support to the leadership of the house.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, Mr Wale Mogaji, and the Clerk, Mr Ganiyu Abiru. (NAN)
