NNPCL also noted that it did not direct its retail outlets across the country to increase petrol pump price

The Spokesperson of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, (NNPCL) Olufemi Soneye, on Tuesday said the news of the latest hike in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit otherwise called Petrol did not emanate from his office.

His comment comes amid media reports that NNPCL has increased the pump price of the product across its retail outlets from the previous rate of N998 per litre to N1,025 per litre in Lagos and from N1,030 per litre to N1060 in Abuja.

Reacting to the development during a recent interview with DAILY POST,  the state-owned oil firm’s spokesperson insisted he knew nothing about the increment.

Soneye said, “There is no increase in gasoline price that I am aware of.”.

Also speaking on the purported hike in the pump price of petrol, the spokesperson of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Chinedu Ukadike, said NNPCL’s ex-depot price has not changed.

“For independent marketers, we have not experienced a fresh price hike as I am speaking with you. NNPCL still sells to us at the same price.

“For Port Harcourt, it is N1040 per litre; Abuja and Lagos are around N990 per litre,” he said.
