The trial of the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has begun in his absence. Biafra groups on Friday, September 23, embarked on a protest calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. Upon resumption of the trial, counsel to Kanu, Chuks Muoma, informed the court about a petition to the National Judicial Council against his rulings.
He also advised the judge that it would serve all parties right if he (the judge) transfers the matter to the chief judge of the Federal High Court. Responding to Muoma’s advice, Justice John Tsoho said: “As a member of the inner bar, I believe you have the responsibility to educate the younger counsels.
“You have an application and on what would I have ruled to transfer the matter,” the judge said. He added that he has no ulterior motive or interest in the matter and so cannot be said to be interfering with judicial oath as alleged in the petition.
