Aloy Ejimakor, one of the lawyers representing Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), said that police officers used tear gas to disperse protesters who had gathered in Abuja.
He made the allegation on Monday via a now-trending post on his official X page.
He was referring to the ongoing demonstration in Abuja, the nation’s capital, where participants are demanding the release of Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.

Recounting his experience, the lawyer stated that the protesters had gathered in front of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel for the #MNKOct20 demonstration and were planning to move into the streets when police officers fired tear gas at them.
He added that he was part of the crowd and the incident left him with irritation in his eyes and throat.
Speaking via his verified social media handle, Ejimakor wrote: “I’m in front of Transcorp Hilton with a mammoth crowd that gathered for #MNKOct20 and the police just exploded teargas. My eyes and throat hurt. They’re scattering everywhere.”
