Nnamdi Kanu accused of terror, urged to suspend all IPOB/ESN activities

-

As the situation gets out of hand and these crimes continue with no solution in sight, it has become apparent that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has brought terror to his people rather than peace and progress which they deserve.

As gunmen continue to wreak havoc in the Southeast, killing and maiming innocent citizens, and destroying properties, both public and private, Eastern Nigeria professionals under the auspices of South-East South-South Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN) have asked the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to suspend all activities of the group for six months.

Though IPOB continues to claim innocence of the mayhem in the Southeast, SESSPN said “it has become apparent that Mazi Kanu has brought terror to his people rather than peace and progress which they deserve.”

The Eastern Nigeria professionals said this in a statement by the SESSPN President, Hannibal Uwaifo Esq, which was made available to TheNiche.

The group said it was necessary for Nnamdi Kanu to be given the opportunity by the authorities holding him to make a public statement condemning the ongoing carnage and dissociating IPOB from the heinous crimes, if, indeed, the bloodbath was not the original intention of IPOB.

The group said the IPOB leader should use the opportunity of the public statement to announce the suspension of all IPOB/ESN activities in the South East for at least six months.

“This is the only way to clear his name in the face of history in the making,” SESSPN said.

The group, which accused Nnamdi Kanu of bringing another dimension into the activities of IPOB by regular clashes with law enforcement, said “the purported formation of an Eastern Security Network (ESN) further worsened the situation with their methods of operation which includes brute force, arson, torture, intimidation and the destruction of public and private properties to enforce their orders.”

The statement titled, “The desecration of Eastern Nigeria,” reads:

It is with deep sadness, shock and awe that the South-East South-South Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN) have continued to watch the unfolding anarchy being unleashed in the Eastern part of Nigeria by armed criminal gangs seeking to achieve what no right thinking mind can decipher.

The terrible nature of these crimes in outright killings and beheading of innocent people predominantly of the South East is not only unfortunate but calls for deep interrogation. As if arson, kidnapping, rape and molestation of innocent citizens were not enough, these angels of darkness and despair have continued to carry on unchecked and have become a law unto themselves such that the Eastern part of Nigeria has become very famous for bad news and serious criminality.

The kidnapping, rape, murder and beheading of a couple on their way to their wedding is not only evil but has brought out the worst of atrocities in the East. The couple who were officers of the Nigerian Army were gruesomely butchered, the female raped and beheaded in the most evil activity ever witnessed in an elitist civilized society like Eastern Nigeria.

As if this was not enough the perpetrators brashly displayed their bestial acts on social media. A few days ago, these agents of darkness struck again. They abducted, murdered and beheaded a lawmaker from Anambra State, Mr. Okechukwu Okoye, and put his head on display.

The reported murder of a pregnant mother and her four children has added to this sorrow of tears and blood. The criminal activities which has now engulfed the South East started on sound principles of self-determination and agitation for structural changes in Nigeria’s economic and political space. There was nothing wrong with this if it had remained peaceful and focused.

However, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is presently standing trial for treason brought another dimension into the activities of the group by regular clashes with law enforcement and the purported formation of an Eastern Security Network (ESN) further worsened the situation with their methods of operation which includes brute force, arson, torture, intimidation and the destruction of public and private properties to enforce their orders.

The SESSPN does not for once believe that this is the way Mazi Nnamdi Kanu planned his IPOB to be a terror gang that is now attracting local and international opprobrium and scorn while terrified people of the East live in fear. As the situation gets out of hand and these crimes continue with no solution in sight, it has become apparent that Mazi Kanu has brought terror to his people rather than peace and progress which they deserve.

If however the gentleman never intended this, the authorities holding him must grant him the permission to make a public statement condemning this carnage and dissociating the proscribed IPOB from these heinous crimes and more importantly announce the suspension of all IPOB/ESN activities in the South East for at least six months.

This period will enable all Stakeholders to come together and confront these terrorists knowing that IPOB agitators will not become innocent victims in the ensuing total fight against terrorism. He can do this by recorded broadcast covered by Channels TV, Arise TV and Njenje Media on the electronic media to confirm its authenticity to his followers.

This is the only way to clear his name in the face of history in the making. The SESSPN commiserates with the loved ones of our fallen citizens, none of them deserves the fate that befell them.

May their souls rest in the bosom of their maker. We appeal to the individuals involved in these crimes and those sponsoring them to stop forthwith. Freedom and progress is never achieved by terror and intimidation. Let peace reign in a once peaceful and prosperous Eastern Nigeria.
