The President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero has confirmed that labour unions all over the country have commenced nationwide protests.
He made this known on Wednesday morning during an interview with Channels Television at Unity Fountain, Abuja, where workers had gathered to hit the streets.
He, however, noted that there are some states where workers who had gone out to take part in the industrial action are facing some challenges from police, who are intimidating and frustrating them so that they won’t participate in the protests.

He went on to assure Nigerians that despite the hindrances in those states and the dialogue between labour and some state governments, these workers will still embark on the protest at a later date.
Speaking during the chat, Ajaero said: “Protests have taken off in all states bearing some hindrances in some places. We are aware of the Police efforts to stop the process in some areas.
“To be candid with you, nothing is stopping the protest. Based on responses from state governments, it is equally our determination whether the protest will be for today, tomorrow or next, not by using force to stop the people from expressing their views. We are here for the protest, to make a statement to Nigerians”
NLC had on July 26, announced it would commence a nationwide protest on Wednesday, August 2, to demand a reversal of fuel price increments and other policies by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
As of the time of filing this report, workers had gathered in various states to commence the protests.
