The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has confirmed that the Department of State Services (DSS) has freed its President, Joe Ajaero.
According to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Head of information of the union, Benson Upah, said Ajaero was released late Monday night.
Prior to this development, Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, had taken to his X page to claim the NLC president was released by the DSS.
He tweeted, “The fascist regime of @officialABAT has released the @NLCHeadquarters President Joe Ajaero from @OfficialDSSNG custody on bail. The @NLCHeadquarters must declare for #FearlessInOctober #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria #NoGoingBack.”
TheNiche also gathered that Barrister Marshal Abubakar, one of the lawyers from the Femi Falana Chambers facilitated Ajaero’s bail.

Confirming the news, the NLC said Ajaero was eventually freed at 11.10pm after hours of detention by the security agency.
The NLC President was picked up at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by personnel of the secret police.
He was said to be on his way to the United Kingdom to attend a Trade Union Congress event.
After his arrest, the NLC gave the President Bola Tinubu-led government up to Monday midnight to release its President.
The labour union also ordered its affiliates to begin mobilization for a possible shut down of the Nigerian economy.
