Nollywood actress, Nkechi Blessing Sunday, has explained why she rejected a movie role despite it being a major opportunity to make a name for herself in the Nigerian movie industry.
She justified the decision while featuring as a guest on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast.
According to the movie star, she was offered a script that required her to sleep with a dog, but she declined the character.
She added that she took the decision not to feature in the movie because she felt it would create a negative impact on her image, considering it would have been her first role in Nollywood.
Nkechi noted that some other upcoming female thespians jumped at the opportunity after she opted out.
Speaking on the show, she said, “Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense. It is going to be a tag because whatever you start with is what people would associate you with. I didn’t want to be renowned as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies.
“So, I rejected that script. But immediately I threw it down, so many girls grabbed it. I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today.”
Nkechi Blessing went on to say that after she left the production venue, she met veteran Nollywood filmmaker, Emeka Duru, who gave her the opportunity to make her debut in the film ‘Through The Fire’ produced by Emem Isong.
