Nigerians trash Tinubu’s offer of N8k monthly palliative to 12m households

The approval of N500 billion President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is seeking from the National Assembly, is for 12 million households worst affected by the removal of fuel subsidy.

The president, according to a letter to the House of Representatives, said that 12 million families would get N8,000 over a period of six months to ameliorate the hardships faced as a result of the subsidy removal.

But Nigerians have trashed the suggestion that N8,000 should be given monthly to poor Nigerians similar to the policy in the government of President Muhammadu which claimed to dole N5,000 to at least 1.6 million households.

@Kayloaded1 said: “This is not a good idea. Someone close to him is already giving him bad advice. Nobody needs cash palliatives at this point in our lives. I thought he was going to do better than this.”

@BedeMichael: “How will this money get to the poor Nigerians? Which data is used in fishing out these poor Nigerians? To be honest, the real poor Nigerians do not have bank accounts. That takes us back to the first question. Is this a way of adding funds to the elites? I strongly believe in investing that money in human and infrastructural developments. I think that will make sure that the poor benefit from it.”

@ADEYEYEOLADELE said: “What database do we have of the poor? Who are the poor families identified? What’s N8,000 to commensurate the hardship presently experienced?”

@SurajoTeet also said: “Kudos to Mr. President. With that huge amount, families will be able to cater for their children’s school fees, feeding, transportation, all bills, and save an extra N5,000 for future usage.”
