An online petition started by a former special assistant to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has almost hit the mark in less than seven hours.

Omokri, who started the petition on August 20, solicited the signature of 5,000 Nigerians who would want the EFCC to investigate Tinubu for allegedly contravening the Money Laundering Act, by ferrying bullion vans to his home.

In the first seven hours that the petition was put on Change.Org, an online petition technology App, it gathered more than 4,700 signatories. Once the petition reaches the 5,000 mark, it becomes eligible for a response from the EFCC. And at the speed the petition was being signed, that is, an average of 400 people in one hour, the 5,000 mark would have been surpassed by the time this story is published.

The petition, according to Omokri, was borne out of the concern that the EFCC was uninterested in probing the movement of the bullion van, which he said was to tilt the outcome of the 2019 presidential election in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Let’s take our country back by signing this petition to compel the EFCC to investigate and prosecute Bola Tinubu for contravening the Money Laundering Act, by ferrying bullion vans into his house.

“Don’t say ‘na today’, or ‘leave matter’. We as Nigerians must stop confusing cynicism for wisdom. If we do not fight for our country, who will? George Floyd’s death sparked a revolution in America and we joined. We did not say ‘na today’, or ‘leave matter’. You and I can make a difference with this petition. #EFCCMustInvestigateTinubu,” he said.
