Nigerians react, as FG demands granting permission before anyone uses the National Anthem

By Uzoma Chukwudi

Nigerians are prohibited from using the national anthem if the Federal Government doesn’t grant permission.

Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said on Wednesday that, “seeking permission was necessary to avoid misinterpretation.”

Netizens have expressed anger over this policy.

An X user @willedbaza said: “The national anthem belongs to ALL Nigerians, not just the government! Seeking permission to use it is unnecessary. It’s our shared heritage, not a proprietary symbol”

Another User @Ashipatwit added: “From seeking permission before using the national anthem,we will soon migrate to paying tax before using the national anthem. It is unfortunate that the disconnect between the leaders and the led is widening daily”

@marcel_c_c also said: “Not like I like the new-old national anthem, but to seek permission to use it?What the hell is going on? Do these lot know a country’s national anthem belongs to the people? We must be moving mad under this present government”

@bobnyaknno1 said: “It’s finished, They finally sold our country out, now citizens are to seek permission before using their National Anthem a symbol of National Unity.”

@_nmesoma added: “Why must we seek permission before using the national anthem.”

@temitayopraise said: “FG is telling Nigerians to seek for permissions before using the national anthem. Somethings we make decision on in this country is just funny”
