Nigerians have rallied behind a young schoolboy, simply identified as Akorede, donating over ₦2 million after his heartwarming appearance in a dance video shared by Lagos-based businesswoman, Nze Matilda.
The video, posted on Instagram on January 13 by Matilda (@bellz_beautybase), was meant to celebrate the reopening of her store. However, Akorede’s impromptu dance captivated viewers across the country, sparking a wave of generosity.
Initially, a customer donated ₦100,000 for Akorede after watching the video. Determined to ensure the boy received the funds, Matilda on Tuesday located Akorede and met his mother. By then, donations had reached ₦250,000. Matilda handed over the money and expressed amazement at the growing support.
“As I was posting, more people were sending in donations for them. I know about grace, and I’ve experienced it firsthand, but this boy’s grace is on another level. We’ll be giving Akorede and his family another N250,000 today, making it N500,000 in total,” she said.
Donations continued to pour in, and by Friday, they had climbed to ₦1.1 million. An anonymous donor also pledged to sponsor Akorede’s education from secondary school to university.
“This story has left me in awe,” Matilda wrote. “God works in mysterious ways, and I am privileged to be His instrument. Thank you, God, for this.”
In another post, she wrote: “His name, Akorede, means ‘the one who brings wealth,’ spoke strongly for him. This boy’s story is truly powerful.”
By Saturday, contributions had exceeded ₦2 million. Matilda said: “N1,759,000 + N250,000 = N2,009,000. From N100k to N2 million for Akorede. This young boy is now a millionaire! We’ve already given them N250,000 and will hand over the balance today. Even in my sleep, I can account for every naira donated. This is massive!”
She expressed gratitude to all donors and promised to ensure the funds were responsibly delivered to Akorede and his family.
