Senior research fellow at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Professor Aja Agwu, has said that the Nigerian media is clogged by several biases that has constrained it from having bipartisan view on national issues.

Agwu, who was a discussant at the TheNiche lecture, said the biases played out in the inability of the Nigerian media to have a consensus position on the Continental Africa free trade Area deal which Nigeria refused to sign.

According to him, the media couldn’t have a united voice because the media is not free.

“There is no free press. They are all clogged by political considerations, editorial bias, professional incompetence, economic handicap.

“No press is free. And this is not peculiar to Nigeria. It is all over the world,” he said.

At TheNiche lecture, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),Professor Kingsley Moghalu, was the guest lecturer.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, was the guest of honour. He was represented by Ben Bruce, the senator representing Bayelsa East.

Traditional ruler of Abriba, Kalu Kalu Ogbu, National Conscience Party (NCP) presidential candidate in the 2015 election, Martins Onovo, former chairman of Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), Professor Anya O Anya, minister of information, Lai Mohammed, represented by Bridget Yerima, a director at the ministry, an elder statesman, Umah Eleazu, were some of the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
