Nigerian-born man Chukwuebuka Eweni has been detained by authorities in New Orleans after allegedly killing his father and injuring his two sisters during a violent domestic incident on Pebble Street.
Family members told WWL Louisiana that the deceased, Samuel Eweni, was a computer science professor at Southern University at New Orleans. They confirmed that the two women who sustained injuries were his daughters.
Relatives described the episode as deeply unexpected, noting that the 27-year-old suspect had a history of mental health challenges but had never shown violent tendencies in the past.
According to WWL Louisiana, one of the injured sisters has been discharged, while the other remains hospitalised but is expected to recover.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), in a statement obtained on Sunday, confirmed that the suspect had been found in Jefferson Parish.
“Chukwuebuka Eweni has been located in Jefferson Parish. He is currently in law enforcement custody while undergoing medical evaluation at an area facility,” the police said.
The incident unfolded at about 9:59 p.m. on November 11, 2025. NOPD said officers were dispatched to a report of “an aggravated battery by cutting believed to be domestic in nature.”
Upon entering the residence, officers discovered an unresponsive adult man who had sustained a fatal stab wound, alongside two additional adult victims suffering from stab injuries. Both survivors were rushed to a local hospital.
Investigators identified Eweni as the primary suspect and secured legal authorisation to arrest him. “Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives have developed and positively identified Eweni as the perpetrator in this incident and have obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. This suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous,” the police added.
