In a recent post on her Facebook page, Vkay narrated that though she won the visa lottery she was still stranded in Nigeria over a decade after.

According to her, she won the visa lottery in 2007 but missed her interview date after a family member hid the document which contained vital information on what to do next after winning.

She, however, later found out in September 2008 that her interview date should have been April 15, 2008, and embarked on a mission to salvage whatever she can.

Vkay wrote,  “In 2007, I won the American Visa lottery but I missed my interview date because I didn’t receive the documents that stated it. Actually, someone received it in the family I lived with at the time, whose address I had used for the application but they denied me access to it. Like, I had no knowledge the documents were received.

“I found out in September of 2008 that my interview date should have been April 15th of the same year. I found out by coincidence but by then it was too late,”

Tearfully, Vkay approached the American embassy in Lagos to narrate her ordeal but her pleas fell on deaf ears, as the embassy personnel she complained to ordered the security to throw her out.

She added, “He looked at me like I was insane and called for security through the public address system, in his exact words, security, please come and take this mad girl away from here.

“When I saw two security men coming, I just laid on the floor wailing and refusing to leave. Yes, I embarrassed myself that day.

“At the end, the men were able to extract me from that area while I was still crying and begging for help like someone whose hope was lost. It was a sight that day, everyone was staring at me while I was acting this action feem. Lol.”

All that is now in the past, as she is now in the United States. In the post, Vkay showed off pictures taken in the US but didn’t say how she eventually got there.

But she encouraged others not to stop chasing their dreams no matter the obstacle they found on their way, adding that her friend encouraged her to share her story.

She said, “I shared this story on this day last year with only a dream in my heart and not a dime in my pocket. This was the day I told my friend Sophyn SophynStyle SophynStyle this story and she encouraged me to post it online. I was very reluctant because it was a very personal and heartbreaking story for me but I wrote it anyway and I got massive feedback from people praying for me to get the opportunity again.

“In earnest I was just saying amen without any faith, to back it up but as God will have it, the story is very different now.

“I feel I understand now why God didn’t allow me 14 years ago, my mother died that same year, and not going allowed me spend 5 months with her before she passed. I was able to be there for her, take care of her, see her face and Bury her, I was able to do everything I wouldn’t have been able to do if I had left and I believe I would have ran mad with guilt knowing I would never see her again.

“Well, I’m here now and I thank God for it”

After posting her story, netizens took to her comment section to hail her for her doggedness, while some said her story was inspirational, others said it has taught them to continue to fight for any course they believe in.
