Nigeria, two other countries qualify for the Round of 16

Nigeria joined hosts, Cameroon and the Atlas Lions of Morocco in the knockout stages of AFCON after defeating Sudan 3-1

Nigeria booked a place in the Round of 16 in the ongoing African Cup of Nations {AFCON) after defeating Egypt and Sudan in their first two games in Group D.

Nigeria beat the seven-time African champions Egypt 1-0 on Tuesday in their opener and convincingly dispatched the Falcons of Sudan 3-1, in their second group game on Saturday.

The Austin Eguavoen tutored side in the process topped their group and qualified with a match to spare.  They will now meet Guinea Bissau, in a match of no consequence to them other than bragging rights.

Hosts Cameroon were the first to qualify for the knockout stages after wins over the Stallions of Burkina Faso and the Walia ibex of  Ethiopia.

Meanwhile, Morocco joined Cameroon and Nigeria in the rounds of 16 as the second country to book their spot.

The Atlas Lions defeated debutants, The Comoros 2-0 at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.

Selim Amallah and Zakaria Aboukhlal scored the two goals that sent the North Africans through to the Round of 16

The North African had won their first game 1-0 against Ghana.

They now sit top of Group C with 6 points ahead of Gabon who have 4 points, after coming from behind to forcing Ghana to a  1-1 draw.
