Nigeria is preparing for International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) safety audit in June and Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) in November.
Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Director General, Usman Mukhtar, said all that is required to make the audit a success has been provided NCAA staff, and sought the cooperation of stakeholders for the exercise.
USOAP was established as part of ICAO strategic objective A3 to conduct aviation safety audits to identify deficiencies and encourage their resolution.
On the revocation of an airline’s air operator’s certificate and the 90-day ultimatum given to private jet owners to regularise their operations, Mukhtar said regulations have to be applied to protect lives and property.
He disclosed that a committee has been set up to look into the case of sacked NCAA workers and whatever is recommenced would be in line with what the government believes should be done.
Mukhtar promised that the NCAA will continue to train its staff in line with global trends.
