Nigeria out of Qatar, as Ghana qualify on away goal rule

Nigeria fans started throwing bottles on the field at the blast of the final whistle, the Black Stars players were not spared as they rain plastic bottles on the pitch

Super Eagles failed to book a ticket to the Qatar 2022 World Cup after they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Augustine Eguavoen made five changes to the side that drew against the Black Stars in the first leg of the World Cup qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi on Friday.

Ghana opened the scoring as early as the 11th minute when Thomas Partey finished a striker from outside the box.  

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong equalised for the home team in the 22nd minute when he tucked away a penalty that was awarded after a VAR review.

Victor Osinmhen then had a goal ruled offside in the 35th minute after another VAR check.

Nigeria failed to impress in the second half, as the Black Stars comfortably saw the game out and they are now off to their fourth World Cup on the away goals rule.

While Ghana fans were celebrating the qualification, disappointed Nigeria fans started throwing bottles on the field, the Black Stars players were not spared as they rain plastic bottles on the pitch.
