Nigeria, EU to elevate defence, security collaboration, says Defence Minister, Badaru

Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has stressed the need for Nigeria and the European Union (EU) to work deeply on their security and defence collaboration and relationship. The Minister made the remark when the Director Peace Partnership and Crisis Management Department of the European External Action Service in Brussel, Casmin Dirban, paid him a courtesy visit in Ship House, Abuja.
The meeting also harped on improvement of cooperation on security to fight terrorism and banditry. Badaru called for a deliberate effort to look for more areas of collaboration with Nigeria on defence and security matters, according to a release by Sani Datti, for Director, Information and Public Relations in the Ministry.

Earlier, Dirban accompanied by the European union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, noted the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries and expressed a desire for stronger relations.
The meeting with the EU chieftain, comes on the heels of an earlier interaction by Badaru with a delegation from Pakistan, led by General Shahir Shamsad, in which the Minister reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its defence capabilities through strategic collaboration with the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. At the meeting, the Minister commended Pakistan’s counter-terrorism strategies, describing them as cost-effective and exemplary for Nigeria to consider. He highlighted that the enduring relationship between both nations is anchored on mutual respect, shared challenges, and aligned strategic interests.
