Niger State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an Italian firm, ItalWorks Nigeria Limited, for the construction of 1, 000 housing units to ease accommodation problems in the state.
The firm’s Managing Director, Gaetano Crisa, said that the project, valued at N8 billion ($25 million), already has more than 3, 000 off takers bidding for the purchase of the yet to be constructed 1, 000 units of, 2 and 3 bedroom detached bungalows.
Under Public Private Partnership initiatives, Gaetano said that the state government would provide 910, 000 square metres (91 hectares) of land for residential quarters along the Minna-Abuja expressway in Paikoro Local Government Area, while Italworks Nigeria Limited would provide the funds. Gaetano said in Minna on Thursday that the project, which would take-off July, would also create employment for thousands of youths in the state and enhance business boom at the state’s building material market and along the project site.
Gaetano promised that his firm would bring in Italian engineers and architects to ensure the construction of quality and affordable houses in record time as contained in the MoU.
General Manager, Niger State Housing Corporation, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi, while speaking on the planned partnership, expressed joy that the housing challenges would soon end , describing the partnership as ‘highly commendable’.
