American rapper and actress Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, known professionally as Nicki Minaj has opened up on Wizkid’s hit track ‘Essence’ while chatting with Joe Budden on social media.
The 39-year-old rapper speaking on several issues including Recording Academy’s Grammy Awards agreed that the song should have been nominated for a better category at the prestigious award.
The songwriter while responding to American media personality Joe Budden’s assertion that ‘Essence’ could pass for Grammy’s song of the year, nodded her head and said “right!! right!!”
She also added, “You wanna know what’s so funny? We should have our own Grammy board.”

Nicki Minaj’s recognition of Wizkid’s good work was captured on a video, which has since gone viral on social media.
The online community took to various social media platforms to comment after the video was posted, and most of them agreed with Nicki Minaj and Joe Budden that Essence should have been nominated for a better category at the Grammys.
Trinidadian-born Nicki Minaj is noted for her versatility, lyricism, animated flow, usage of alter egos, and accents in her songs.
She first gained recognition after releasing three mixtapes between 2007 and 2009 and rose to fame with her debut album, Pink Friday, which was released in 2010 and topped the U.S. Billboard 200 that year.
