Shehu Abdullahi, Omonia Nicosia’s right back got injured during his club’s encounter with APOEL on Boxing Day, he is now a doubt for AFCON

Nigeria has suffered another injury blow ahead of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, as right back Abdullahi Shehu picked up an injury while playing for his club.
Super Eagles are already without Watford midfielder, Ogehenekaro Etebo and Genk striker, Paul Onuachu, who were excluded from the 28-man list for AFCON after they failed to recover from various injuries.
Abdullahi Shehu has now joined the list of players who may miss the AFCON in Cameroon after he suffered an injury during the first half of Omonia Nicosia’s 4-2 defeat to APOEL on Boxing Day.

The 28-year-old right-back came out worse after he was involved in a tackle with an APOEL defender in the 34th minute, he was replaced by Paris Psaltis in the 37th minute.
Abdullahi is expected to compete with Ola Aina and Chidozie Awaziem for the right-back position at the AFCON.
The right back will now be racing against time to get to full fitness before Nigerias’ encounter with their first opponent, the Pharaohs of Egypt on January 11, 2022.
Super Eagles are in Group D alongside Africa giant Egypt, who have won the competition a total of 7 times, they will also face less fancied Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.
