The Maggies signed England right-back, Kieran Trippier for a reported fee of £12million from the reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

The 31-year-old committed to Newcastle United till 2025 after signing a two-and-a-half-year deal with the relegation-threatened Premier League side.

The former Spurs player became the first player to arrive at the club after Mike Ashley sold the club to the Saudi Public Investment Fund in October 2021 for a fee of £305 million.

He is expected to be a statement of intent that will herald the acquisition of other Mackey signings that will help the Magpies’ boss Eddie Howe avoid the drop this season.

Kieran Trippier while being unveiled said he is prepared for the challenge ahead, saying he understands the enormity of the task ahead.

He also said he enjoyed his time at Atletico Madrid and had worked with the new Newcastle gaffer, Eddie Howe in the past.

He said, “I’m delighted to be joining this fantastic club. I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United and having worked with Eddi Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be.

“I’m aware there is a lot of work ahead of us but I know the demands of Premier League well and I know what an amazing club this is with very talented players.

“I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to step out at St. James’ Park as a Newcastle player.”

Meanwhile, Howe welcomed his first signing to the club, as he thanked the club’s new owners for their work in getting the deal over the line.

“I am really pleased to welcome Kieran to Newcastle United,” he said.

Newcastle are also reported to be on the trail of four Arsenal players, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Eddie Nketiah, Mohammed Elneny, and Rob Holding.
