New poll puts Tinubu, Obi, Atiku in a locked race

Atiku leads in the poll, followed by Tinubu and then Obi. The pollsters predict a runoff since no clear winner may emerge in the first ballot

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has a slight lead in next year’s election, according to a field survey THISDAY Newspaper said it carried out.  

He is closely followed by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the ruling party’s presidential candidate, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, comes third in the aggregate data provided by the newspaper in a report titled: 152 Days to 2023 Polls, Obi Set to Disrupt, Deadlock Presidential Run.”

According to the report, Peter Obi is likely to win the entire South-East with an average of 60 per cent, trending at 30 to 40 per cent in the South-South; 20 to 30 in the South-West; and 30 per cent in North-Central. But he is below five per cent in North-East and North-West. “This means that Obi is picking winning votes from Tinubu and Atiku, and, simultaneously, disrupting their calculations,” the report added.

The report says Atiku Abubakar is at the moment trending at 20 to 25 per cent in the South-East; 40 to 50 per cent in the South-South; 20 to 30 per cent in the South-West; 30 to 40 per cent in North-West; and 40 to 50 per cent in the North-East. He is doing 30 per cent at the moment in North-central.

The newspaper reported that the former Lagos State governor is trending at 50 to 60 per cent in his base, South-West; 10 to 15 per cent in South-South; five per cent in South-East; 30 to 40 per cent in North-Central; 40 per cent in North-West; and 30 to 40 per cent in the North-east.
