Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned of an imminent retaliation against Iran over its missile strikes on Tuesday.
Iran had fired at least 200 ballistic missiles against Israel, forcing citizens into bomb shelters.
In a reaction after holding a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said Iran made a big mistake attacking it for which it will pay.
“Iran made a big mistake tonight – and it will pay for it,” Netanyahu said.
Israel came under a barrage of attacks with hundreds of ballistic missiles fired into several parts of the country, including its state capital Tel Aviv marking a significant escalation.
While some of the missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome, many others landed, including in densely populated areas.
On its official X handle, the IDF said: “All Israeli civilians are in bomb shelters as rockets from Iran are fired at Israel.”
According to the IDF, “Approximately 10 million civilians are the targets of Iranian projectiles.”
The IDF added that, “We are ready for them.”
