Nestle Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to the development of grassroots sports in the country through its major brand, Milo.

Nestle Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dharnesh Gordhon, said at the relaunch of the new Milo with Activ-Go in Lagos that Milo is the energy food drink of future champions, helping to nourish the aspirations of mothers for their children, ensuring that they grow up and be successful in all works of life.

“We are proud to be supporter of grassroots sports development in Nigeria. We’ve sponsored the Milo Basketball Championship for the past 17 years,” he stressed.

“This is a great heritage for young Nigerians who have benefited from the opportunity to participate in the championship.

“Many have gone on to achieve great heights both in basketball and other endeavours of life.”

Gordhon also mentioned the Milo Under-13 African Football Championship as well as the Milo Football Clinic in collaboration with Nigeria’s legendary goalkeeper, Peter Rufai.

Nestle Category Manager (Beverages), Olufemi Akintola, recalled that Milo has been part of a healthy breakfast of champions in Nigeria since the 1960s

His words: “Many of our champions today in different walks of life grew up on Nestle Milo. Champions demand more of themselves every day, wanting to always surpass their previous best.

“Milo has been reformulated and it is now fortified with Activ-Go made from protonmal, a unique malt extract and a specifically designed combination of nine micronutrients.

“Activ-Go supports energy release, muscle function and bone maintenance that are essential for physical activity in children.

“Engaging in physical activities such as exercise and sports is an important part of a healthy successful lifestyle.

“Children who are physically active in exercise and sports are less likely to be obese.

“In addition, engaging in sports provide good opportunities for interacting with others and thereby learning important life-skills such as determination, confidence, discipline and teamwork.”

Akintola added that Milo is truly committed to a higher purpose of ensuring the total development of champions all over Nigeria.

This year, the Nutrition Society of Nigeria endorsed Milo as the Nutritious Energy Food Drink of Future Champions.
