The National Examinations Council (NECO) has reiterated its commitment to ensure zero tolerance for all forms of examination malpractices, threatening to blacklist any school found to be aiding and abating examination cheats.
Azeez Sani, the Head of Information and Public Relations Division of NECO, said that the warning followed reports that some schools encourage their students to engage in examination malpractices.
He stated: “There was report from, Signature Television station in Kaduna State last Wednesday, 2nd of December, 2020 alerting NECO about some infractions going on in some schools somewhere in Kaduna State.
“There were noticeable infractions in one of the examination centres incuding; Fabian Kings and Queens International School, Kabala West, Kaduna with Centre Number (0140721) that may lead to malpractices during the just concluded 2020 SSCE (Internal).
“Based on the Council’s zero tolerance for any form of examination malpractices, NECO swung swiftly into action by flagging the centre, identifying and isolating all the candidates’ scripts for scrutiny”.
As part of measures to end future sharp practices, Azeez said that the Council has constituted an Administrative Committee to investigate the allegations to enable NECO take appropriate actions.
“If found culpable, the entire results of the candidates will be cancelled, the school will be derecognized and those examination officials involved in the act will be prosecuted in accordance with the Examination Malpractice Decree 33 of 1999”. The Council, according to him, has however commended the authorities of Signature Television, Kaduna state for being patriotic by ensuring that the sanctity of public examinations were maintained in both private and public schools.
