NDLEA marks Marwa’s 100 days in Office with the seizure of N80bn worth of Illicit drugs

The Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), has disclosed that the agency seized illicit drugs worth over N80 billion, and weighing about two million kilograms in his first 100 days in office.

Marwa, who attained 100 days in office made this known when the acting inspector-general of police, IGP Usman Baba visited the headquarters of the NDLEA in Abuja.

The NDLEA boss in a press statement revealed that 15 million Nigerians use illicit drugs, noting that it is one of the reasons why insecurity has been on the rise in the country.

While assuring the police of adequate partnership and collaboration, Marwa said the Nigeria police have received immense commendations outside Nigeria and he believes that with proper motivation and equipment, the officers will come out the best.

Commenting on the state of security, Marwa said that it is a difficult time for Nigeria generally and the police in particular. He however expressed optimism that the new IGP of police is equal to the task.

The NDLEA boss called on the Nigeria police to assist the agency in training, facilities and intelligence sharing since it is well equipped in these areas.

On his part acting IGP, Usman Baba assured the NDLEA of police readiness to assist in order to ensure that drug abuse is tackled in the country.
