Ndigbo Lagos mourns ‘pillar of support’ Ferdinand Agu

Socio-cultural group, Ndigbo Lagos, has expressed sorrow over the death of its esteemed member, Ferdinand Agu.

Agu, a former Director General of the defunct National Maritime Authority (NMA), which is now the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), died on June 7 after suffering a heart attack.

“As a cornerstone of Ndigbo Lagos, especially in the early years of the organization, Ferdinand’s youthful vigor was a beacon of inspiration. He stood shoulder to shoulder with our elders, dedicating himself to the foundational success of our Organization,” the group’s President-General, Maj.Gen. Obi Umahi (retd), and Secretary-General, Chuma Igwe, said in a statement made available to TheNiche on Friday.

“His generosity knew no bounds; Ferdinand enriched our community with both financial aid and resources. His involvement in Ndigbo Lagos was pivotal, steering numerous committees to fruition and actively participating in many others. His fervor for our collective mission was unmistakable, and his readiness to serve was unwavering.

“Ferdinand’s commitment to our cause extended beyond mere participation. He was instrumental in organizing several seminars and some of our annual cultural festivals, which became a cherished tradition within our community. His ability to galvanize support and foster unity was unparalleled, and his strategic insights have left a lasting imprint on our programs and initiatives.

“Moreover, Ferdinand’s dedication to youth empowerment was evident through his tireless efforts in establishing mentorship programs. He believed in nurturing the next generation, providing guidance and opportunities for young members to excel. His legacy in this regard is a testament to his visionary leadership and compassionate heart.”

Ndigbo Lagos prayed for solace and strength for his bereaved family during this difficult time.
