President of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), Sani Ndanusa, has called on Nigeria’s athletics star of the moment, Blessing Okagbare, to remain focused ahead of coming international meets.
Blessing Okagbare
Okagbare, last Sunday at the 2014 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League in Shanghai, China, set new times in winning both the women long jump and the 200m events. She leapt 6.86m and returned in a time of 22.36secs.
Reacting to the feats in a chat with TheNiche, Ndanusa urged Okagbare and others to keep up the tempo.
“The news was a cheering one for the athlete and the country in general, but she should remain focused ahead forthcoming major events, especially the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasglow, Scotland.
“Other Nigerian athletes should also keep the track intact for other major championships. We know we can achieve success and win more laurels with our athletes, but we also need to monitor them and keep encouraging them for good results.
“I have no doubt in my mind that Okagbare and others would do us proud in major international championships but they must remain focused,” he said.
