NCAA laments breach of security at airports

-

Incessant stowaways at the airports cause concern for Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Director General, Muhtar Usman, and he wants the new Airport Police Commissioner, Taiwo Lakanu, to beef up security.

TSA-Security-CheckpointUsman urged him to deploy all the arsenal at the command to end the menace as well as rowdiness and touting at the terminals which create a negative impression of safety.

He spoke while receiving Lakanu at his Aviation House office in Lagos, where he stressed that security and safety are the hallmarks of the global aviation, which should not be compromised.

According to Usman, this has become more important as Nigeria is preparing for the security audit of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

He reiterated the need for the NCAA and the airport police to work together to ensure an impregnable security network in and around airports.

“As far as ICAO is concerned, Nigeria is to be audited and we are expected to meet the ICAO Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPs),” he warned.

Usman advocated continuous surveillance on the movement of passengers at the ramp and promised to provide CCTV cameras, patrol vans, and other security equipment to check touting and insecurity.

He told Lakanu to bring to his attention any impediment to his assignment.

Lakanu thanked him and pledged that the command will carry out regular patrol and surveillance around the airports.
