The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has fined Nigeria Info 99.3FM Lagos the sum of N5 million.
The NBC said the fine was because the radio station allowed its platform to be used to promote unverifiable and inciting views that can incite crime and public disorder, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The Nigeria Info had recently interviewed a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Obadiah Mailafia, who alleged that the bandits operating in the North Central and Boko Haram terrorists are one and the same group commanded by a northern governor.
The revelation by Mailafia in a live radio interview on Nigeria Info, was hinged on a question he was responding to on the almost endless killings in the Southern part of Kaduna, where alleged Fulani militia are accused of running amok with AK47.
The State Security Service (SSS) then invited Mailafia to their office in Jos, an invitation he honoured on August 12. He was released after about five hours.
Obadiah was later quoted to have said that he stood by his claim, even though he could not corroborate it.
