Nationwide demonstration organizer demands sack of IGP as one-milion-man protest kicks off in Abuja

Nationwide demonstration organizers had earlier vowed to mark the end of the hunger protest with a one-milion-man protest in 36 states and FCT

One of the organizers of the Nationwide protest tagged “EndBadGovernance”, Take It Back Movement (TIB), has asked President Bola Tinubu to sack the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun over the unfortunate killing of some of the hunger protesters across the country.

The group made the demand in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon, where it also alleged that officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) killed at least 40 protesters across the nation.

TIB went on to claim that about 1,000 persons protesting against the high cost of living were incarcerated by security agencies in various states.

The statement reads, “We demand the immediate sack of the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, over the death of close to 40 protesters who were served bullets because they demanded bread.

“So far, over 1000 people have been remanded over the protest against hunger. At least 632 protesters have been remanded in Kano, while over 109 were remanded in Sokoto prison.

“The police must cease the use of teargas and live ammunition against peaceful protesters.”

Meanwhile, the EndBadGovernance protesters have commenced a one-milion-man protest in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

TheNiche had earlier reported that organizers of the nationwide demonstration against high cost of living which began on August 1 is expected to end today, August 10, vowed to stage a one-milion-man protest in the 36 states and the nation’s capital to mark the grand finale of the hunder protest.

The protesters, who stormed the streets of the FCT in the early hours of Saturday morning, were seen carrying different placards and chanting “we are hungry.”
