National Wire Unveils Judges for 2nd Campus Business Journalism Awards
Organisers of the Campus Business Journalism Awards have announced a four-member panel of judges for the second edition of the annual competition, reaffirming their commitment to promoting excellence in campus-based business reporting.
The panel will oversee the assessment of entries submitted by campus journalists from tertiary institutions across Nigeria. Their task includes reviewing reports, evaluating quality and impact, and selecting deserving winners in the various categories of the award.
The judging panel comprises respected professionals drawn from the media, academia and civil society. Award-winning journalist, Mr. Seun Akioye, will serve as Chairman. Other members are Mrs. Ugonma Cokey, Deputy Director, Training, Voice of Nigeria; Mrs. Funmi Falobi, a journalist and Mass Communication lecturer at Caleb University, Lagos; and Mr. Ishaya Ibrahim, News Editor of The Niche Newspaper.
The award features three categories: Best Campus Business Story, Best Data-Driven Business Report, and Best Campus Media Website of the Year. These categories are designed to encourage accuracy, depth, innovation and digital excellence in business journalism at the campus level.
Now in its second year, the initiative seeks to recognise outstanding performance among student journalists while stimulating greater interest in financial and economic reporting. Organisers believe nurturing campus journalists will strengthen accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s media landscape, especially as many participants are expected to transition into mainstream newsrooms after graduation.
National Wire, a business-focused news platform established in 2016, continues to champion accountability and fairness through the initiative.
