National Assembly Brawl: A threat to survival of Democracy, Says Rights activist

-

A renowned human rights activist in Nigeria and Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman has strongly condemned the brawl that engulfed the two chambers of the National Assembly since the inauguration of the eighth
(8th) assembly members over the leadership tussle which All Progressives members were controlling, saying that the development was a threat to the survival of current nurturing democracy in Nigeria.

The rights activist also frowns at the show of shame by the All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the Benue State House of Assembly, which they engaged each other in free for all over the leadership tussle in the State Assembly, noting that the ruling party has become the endanger specie to the peaceful co-existence of the country since its becoming the ruling party on May 29th, 2015 in Nigeria.

Reacting to the development through an online signed statement by CHRSJ boss, Comrade Sulaiman, which a copy was made available to newsmen in Osogbo, the State Capital on Wednesday, described the development as undemocratic, barbaric, evil, anti-masses and uncalled for, which is not augur well for our democratic experiment, stressing that all hands must be on deck to surmount the crisis facing the party after its electoral victory in March and April respectively.

CHRSJ Chief who enjoined the President and Commander-In-chief of Armed Forces, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) as leader of the party in the land, to summon uncommon courage to call his party members in the National Assembly and Benue State House of Assembly to order,
explaining that the development was bad omen for new government and ruling party that claimed to be best among equal in the land, adding that the mind boggling subject matter has brought great stigma to the country among the comity of nations in the world.

His words: “The Tuesday brawl that engulfed the National Assembly and Benue State House of Assembly over the leadership tussle has shown the word that the APC ruling government in the land has nothing to offer the masses. Nigeria has been facing one political problem or the order
over the sharing of power among the elected All Progressives Congress (APC) over who takes what, when and how. Few days ago before the inauguration of the eighth (8th) National Assembly, the APC leadership were holding meeting on how to share position in the new government, instead of deliberating on how the ruling party will confront and solve the mirage of problems facing the country.

“The ongoing crisis within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) across the length and breadth of the country is far from electioneering campaign promises to the Nigeria masses and this development has been making Nigerians to be doubtful of the ruling party to deliver on its mandate. This is high time for President Muhammadu Buhari to call the meeting of stakeholders within his party before they use political intrigues to destroy the present
administration in the land. A stitch in time saves nine”
