The House of Representatives candidate for Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala South Federal Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor ACB Agbazuere, has threatened to drag the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Chief Ginger Onwusibe who was declared the winner of the February 25, 2023 National Assembly (NASS) election to the Elections Petitions Tribunal.

Agbazuere, former Chief of Staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, described as false, the declaration of Onwusibe as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Agbazuere, the PDP candidate, described himself as the rightful winner of the NASS election and vowed to reclaim his mandate in the court.

Agbazuere, who made the declaration in a press conference in Umuahia on Tuesday, also disclosed that he will join INEC in the suit.

According to him, the 25th Presidential and National Assembly elections were marred by irregularities, even as he called on his supporters and well-wishers to remain resolute and not to quaver over his loss, assuring them that “behind the grey cloud, the sun shines and radiates”.

He said, “it is however regrettable and I’m constrained to place on record that the elections were manifestly characterized by compromises on the part of the commission and others”, pointing out that there were cases of Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) snatching, disenfranchisement of the majority of the voters, mutilation of results, over voting, intimidation, the threat to violence and violence during the poll.

“INEC could not timeously distribute election materials and materials arrived at some polling units at about 2 pm and INEC ad-hoc staff left by 4 pm thereby disenfranchising many people who were present and thus couldn’t vote when accreditation was supposed to have started by 8:30 am”.
