The Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, on Wednesday called on Nigerians to offer special prayers for the newly elected leaders to enable them succeed.
Ahmed made the appealed in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nasarawa town, Nasarawa state.
She said that the prayers would empower the in-coming administration to deliver dividends of democracy by initiating people oriented projects in the country.
The scribe described prayer as key to the success of every individual and government, urging Nigerians to continue to pray for the incoming administration for the overall development of the country.
She said: “The re-election of Gov.Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state did not come to the people of the state as a surprise because of his giant developmental strides across the state.
“The governor has done his best and he is still doing his best which led to his re-election.
“Every body in the state have seen what the government of Gov. Al-Makura has done since its inception in fighting corruption, insecurity, poverty, hunger, unemployment and youths and women restiveness as well as boosting the socio-economic development of the state.
“Apart from transforming the educational, agricultural, economic, health, judicial, commercial sector, he has also constructed some reasonable kilometres of roads in each of the local government areas in the state in order to boost our transportation system.
“We are grateful to the electorate for re-electing Gov. Tanko Al-Makura after assessing his giant developmental strides across the state which had impacted positively on their lives and on the lives of other Nigerians positively.
“I want to use this medium to call on Nigerians to continue to pray for the incoming administration of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the administration of Gov. Al-Makura and other newly elected leaders to enable them succeed in providing the much needed dividend of democracy,” she urged.
According to her, there is need for Nigerians to pray and give maximum support to the incoming administration if they must succeed in meeting up with the yearning and aspiration of the electorate for the overall development of the country.
Ahmed has also commended INEC for conducting free, fair, credible and the most peaceful election in the country and called for its sustenance.
On his part, Alhaji Aliyu Tijjani, the Chairman, Nasarawa Local Government Council in the state, told NAN that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria and urged Nigerians to pray for the newly elected leaders to enable them succeed in the task ahead of them.
He said: “I want to congratulate Gov.Tanko Al-Makura for his re-election and to thank the electorate for their peaceful conduct during the March 28 and April 11 election towards ensuring free and fair election in the state and the country at large.
“For our newly elected leaders to succeed in providing the much needed dividends of democracy, what is important is for us Nigerians to continue to pray for their success because prayer is key to success.”
The chairman also urged Nigerians, especially youths to shun lawlessness and respect constituted authority.
Tijjani enjoined Nigerians to embrace peace and progressive ideals irrespective of ethnic, religious and political differences.
