Nasarawa governor flags off construction of N1.2bn Lafia bus terminal

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has flagged off the construction of a 350-vehicle capacity Lafia mega bus terminal, as part of activities to mark his administration’s first anniversary.

Sule said that the project, which would gulp N1.26 billion, was in fulfillment of his administration’s commitment to the provision of necessary infrastructure for the socio-economic development of the state.

The governor noted that a similar bus terminal was being constructed at the Karu axis of the state, adding that arrangements had also been concluded for others to be built in Akwanga and Keffi council areas of the state.

He pointed out that apart from serving as a hub for transportation activities in Lafia and its environs, the bus terminal would also enhance the status of the state capital as a modern city.

Sule said that the construction of the terminal was critical to the mass transit service delivery, capable of turning around the economy of the state.

The governor, who said the project had a completion period of 10 months, charged the contractor to deliver the job within the stipulated time and according to specifications.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the living standard of the people through the provision of basic infrastructure.

The Consultant to the firm handling the project, Mr Shehu Tukur, said it would sit a 2.7-hectare of land, with facilities such as public toilets, petrol station, terminal building, clinic, bank, drivers’ lounge and restaurants, among others.

He assured the government that the project would be completed within the stipulated time. (NAN)
