The Nigeria Airspace Management Authority (NAMA) has confirmed that terrorists killed a staff attached to the site of its Very high frequency omni-directional range (VOR), a Navigational Aids equipment, at the Kaduna International Airport on Saturday.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the attack at the Kaduna Airport, which happened at about 12 noon, disrupted smooth operations of flights as airport staff left their duty post.

Confirming the attack on Saturday, the Managing Director of NAMA, Matthew Pwajok, said the guard of the  site of the Navigational aids (Navaids) which is a kilometre away from the runway, was killed,  adding that the technical staff ran for safety after the guard was killed.

Pwajok said, “It’s true, bandits attacked our Navaids site which is a kilometre away from the runway, they killed the watchman while the technical staff ran back, we alerted the military and they responded swiftly, the situation is now under control by the military, few flights were able to take off afterwards.”

Recall bandits also attacked  the staff quarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), at the Kaduna Airport in March 2021.

The gunmen abducted about 12 people, including a staff of the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and his entire family.

They also abducted the wife and kid of a staff of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET).

The terrorists who invaded the Kaduna Airport were said to have first struck at about midnight on Friday but were repelled by the military.

But they regrouped and struck again midday on Saturday.

Terrorists continue to dominate Kaduna State from all fronts. Last Sunday, March 20, before the attack at the Kaduna Airport, they killed at least 34 people by the account of the Kaduna State government during an attack on the Kaura local government area of the state.

The terrorists, apparently on a genocidal mission, appeared again in the Giwa local government area of the state during the week where they killed at least 50 persons and abducted an unspecified number of people.

The terrorists, it was gathered, moved across nine communities in Giwa and killed unchallenged.

ASP Mohammed Jalinge, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, who confirmed the incident, said the command was yet to compile the actual number of deaths recorded during the invasion.

“We are still waiting for the full details of the incident from the Divisional Police Officer, Giwa and the Area Commander Zaria,” Daily Trust quoted the Kaduna police spokesman as saying.

The newspaper quoted a member of Vigilante Group in Dillalai area, Mansur Ibrahim, who said the terrorists burnt houses and vehicles, motorcycles and rustled over 100 cows.

“The villages affected were Dillalai, Zango Tama, Kaya, Barebari, Anguwan Bakko, Gidan Alhajin Kida, Kadanya and Durumi among others.

“Dillalai was worst hit by the attack where about 15 people were reported to be killed, with five commercial trucks and five houses burnt.

“The bandits also burnt a church at Zangon Tama village, all in Giwa local government area,” he said.
