NAMA boosts capacity with 40 ATC ratings

-

Forty new Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) have been rated by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to boost the manpower of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

The ATCs, who cut across different cadres, got their ratings after passing oral, practical, and written examinations conducted in the airports in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Benin.

A total 43 ATCs took part in the examination held between November and December 2014. The subjects included aerodrome, approach, approach radar, area/airways and area control surveillance. Three failed.

“As part of management’s strategy to build a robust safety infrastructure across the Nigerian airspace, training and re-training of critical manpower has remained the focal point of his administration,” he said in a statement.

He expressed confidence that the latest ratings would boost the manpower of NAMA, especially in area radar control service.

Acting NAMA General Manager (Public Affairs), Olajumoke Adetona, reiterated the agency’s determination to build capacity.

Over 124 ATCs were rated in 2014, another 40 were recently trained on Performance Based Navigation Flight Procedures in Egypt, and five trained on Wind Shear Equipment handling in Germany.
