The National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) in the United States has countered a statement by Dele Alake, Special Adviser to President-elect Bola Tinubu that Lloyd Ukwu is a NADECO impostor.

A top member of the organisation, Ralph Obioha, had addressed the matter. However, NADECO USA General Counsel, W. Bruce Delvalle, said in a statement dated March 11 that Alake got his information wrong.

The statement said, “First, for the record, the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) USA is not a splinter group, nor is Mr Lloyd Ukwu an impostor as alleged by Mr Dele Alake. Mr Lloyd Ukwu is the executive director of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO USA) in Washington DC, USA. This is a position he has held for years. This can be verified both by Mr Dele Alake’s principal, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the United States Government and the District of Columbia’s government.”

NADECO USA charged Alake to bring factual data and evidence to support his claims about the organisation.

It also said it is putting the world on notice to expect that the attack on it and its leadership would dominate the media in the coming days and weeks.

NADECO USA noted that its press conference held at the National Press Club in Washington DC on March 8 was not to attack Tinubu but to stress the flaws of the February 25 poll.

“During the June 12, 1993 election in which Chief MKO Abiola emerged as the winner, NADECO fought to retrieve his mandate. Today, and 30 years later, NADECO is doing exactly what it did in 1993 to protect the people’s mandate,” the statement said.

NADECO USA added that neither it nor Lloyd Ukwu are agents of the Labour Party, PDP, NNPP etc., but an agent of the Nigerian people especially the youth who want to see a better Nigeria.

“And let us be peacefully clear, all NADECO demands is proof of the announced INEC results in conformance with existing Nigerian law and International Human Rights Article 25 norms of free, fair, transparent, and safe elections,” the statement concluded.
