The Rule of Law and Accountability, Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has petitioned the Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) of the Nigeria Police Force over the threat to the life of a Lagos businesswoman, Mrs Onyedikanne Osuji.
Recall that in April, a team of alleged fraudsters swindled Mrs Onyedikanne of N9.5 million on the pretext of engaging her travels and tours company in a business which turns out to be a ruse.
The financial loss left Mrs Onyedikanne emotionally and physically distressed, for which she approached the Lagos police commissioner, Abiodun Alabi, to help her recover her money from the syndicate.
The Lagos police boss transferred the case to the Special Investigation Bureau (SIB), and since then, the case has hung, and the syndicate continue to brag that they were untouchable. RULAAC then petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) last week.

After the petition to the IGP, the fraud syndicate doubled down in their threat to the life of Mrs Onyedikanne, for which RULAAC then petitioned the officer-in-charge of SIB, CSP Alkasim Mohammad whose office has been handling the case.
RULAAC, in the letter, said: “My name is Okechukwu Nwanguma, Executive Director Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre RULAAC. I’m contacting you concerning the case of obtaining money by false pretence and threat to life reported by one Mrs Onyedikanne Osuji against an alleged fraud syndicate at the Lagos State Police Command and referred to the SIB for investigation
“RULAAC has received the following further information /SOS from Mrs Onyedikanne Osuji and this is for your information and necessary prompt action pls.”
The SOS RULAAC received from Mrs Onyedikanne reads:
“The Sir good afternoon. I fear for my life and investment that’s why I have decided to bring this to your notice. Since Thursday Mr Desmond Oghenefejiro has been parading my office with some young men with stern faces after they failed to come to the police command as they had promised the previous Thursday (28th April).
“He (Mr Desmond Oghenefejiro) came and paraded himself in front of my office pretending he wanted to buy something around the neighborhood, then on Friday around 5pm he came this time in a silver color Mercedes Benz with himself sitting in the front, 3 other guys behind and the driver. Their focus was my shop as they slowed down looked at my shop in confirmation, then drove off.
“I am afraid for my life as this same Desmond was the one that beat up one of the police men (Accountant) right in front of other police personnel inside Bode Thomas police station the day that Gladys was arrested.
“I kindly urge you to intervene as they have already made a promise/threat to deal with me since they are untamed and feel untouchable and can get away with any crime.
“Even this morning one of the IPO’s (accountant) called my uncle to ask him if he has seen the publication on the media, that I’m writing against police which is dangerous, so my uncle called me, but I told him to ask the IPO to send him the media report that I’m not aware of it.”
