The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa said two mysterious fire outbreaks had destroyed six students’ hostels at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Kazaure.
The Commandant of the NSCDC in the state, Mr Muhammad Gidado, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Thursday that the inferno had razed down the hostels completely in two different incidents.
Gidado said that three of the hostels were burnt on Wednesday at 9 a.m. while the students were attending classes.
He said the other three hostels were burnt by the mysterious fire on Thursday around 3 a.m.
The commandant, however, said no life was lost, but that valuables belonging to the students were consumed by the fire.
According to him, the cause of the fire was suspected to be electrical, as no kerosene stove or cooking gas was found during investigation.
Gidado said that a combined team of the NSCDC and fire fighters prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings in the school.
“The timely and tireless efforts of NSCDC and fire fighters prevented the inferno from spreading further,” he said.
Gidado advised people to be extra careful when using fire.
