MWUN lauds Nigeria’s successful election to IMO Council Category C

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by President-General Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has congratulated members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for their pivotal contributions to Nigeria’s successful election into Category C of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the 2026–2027 biennium.
In a press statement signed by MWUN Media Officer Comrade Kennedy Ikemefuna, the union described the achievement—recorded on November 28, 2025, in London—as a landmark milestone in Nigeria’s maritime history and diplomatic engagements. It called the feat remarkable and worthy of national celebration.
MWUN’s President-General praised the committee’s efforts, which he said were instrumental in advancing Nigeria’s maritime reforms and enhancing the country’s standing on the global stage.
Comrade Bunu also commended Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, for his leadership in the achievement and the effectiveness of the committee members.
He further thanked the Federal Government for championing Nigeria’s interests within the global maritime sector.
