German international and former Arsenal defender, Shkodran Mustafi has claimed that his former side have surpassed expectations this season.
According to the Levante defender, the Gunners’ return to Champions League action next season is almost as good as winning the English Premier League (EPL) title.
Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola while addressing the press ahead of this weekend’s game against Fulham, echoed his sentiment, saying finishing second this season would be a great achievement for Mikel Arteta’s men.

Arsenal, who are atop the English top flight and widely tipped to lift the EPL trophy for the first time since 2004, were beaten 4-1 by the champions on Wednesday and have since then handed the driving seat to Manchester City.
Even though the Gunners are still 2 points ahead of the Citizens, City will claim the top spot with a win over Fulham with a game in hand.
Speaking to Metro about Arsenal’s performance this season, Mustafi said: “Arsenal has not played in the Champions League since Arsene Wenger left the club.
“I think Arsenal have already won a title in which they play in the Champions League again next year because that’s where the club belongs.”
