Bartholomew Okeke may not be well-known within the Nigerian music industry, but he has been around for a long time. This is perhaps because he is on the production side of things which has led to his opening an ultra-modern music studio in Festac Town, Lagos.
The CEO of Playtime Studio told TheNiche about the success they have so far made.
“I am the owner of Playtime Studios in Festac Town, Lagos, and by the grace of God we are doing well so far,” he said.
Of why he went into the music studio business, he said: “Music has been part of my life for a long time; I grew up in a family that loves music and I have also been in the Nigerian music scene in the last 20 years doing behind-the-scenes promotions for a couple of people,” he said.
He said he has been helping artistes out in the area of music promotions and pushing their careers to the next level. To do that, he has had to get involved in other businesses to get the financial muscle to operate in the entertainment scene.
“It finally got to me that if I can do all this for artistes, why not go into music on my own in the area of owning a music studio or set up a record label which would become a rallying point for artistes in Lagos and beyond? This led me into opening Playtime Music Studio,” he said.
Okeke explained that he plans to also set up his record label to be launched before the end of the first quarter of 2016 in Lagos.
The main aim for the new studio, he said, is to keep my love for music going and also become a famous name within the Nigerian music scene. “Having artistes whose songs and album will be on the lips of many in this country and the African continent and even the world at large.”
Okeke’s dream for the studio in the next five years is that it will, alongside the planned record label, become one of the fl-agbearers of good music in Nigeria and the world at large. It will do this by having artistes whose records and achievements will become a feat worthy of emulation by other labels in Africa and overseas.
Although he has signed on a couple of artistes at the moment, he does not want to go to press with their names just yet.
“We would rather keep it close to our chest, so as not to spoil the surprise we are preparing for the Nigerian music industry,” he said.
