After initially announcing that SuperSport will not air the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament on DSTV and GOtv channels, Multichoice has now said it will televise all the 52 matches.

This was confirmed in a tweet on its official social media  page on Wednesday night.

Why SuperSport won’t broadcast AFCON 2023 — Multichoice

In a statement made available to the press, Multichoice confirmed that it did not secure the broadcasting rights for the continent’s biggest footballing event.

“SuperSport Channel will not broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2-24, because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.

“However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels” the statement read.

But in what appears to be a twist of event, Multichoice has now announced that SuperSport channels along with NTA, will beam the tournament live from Cote d’Ivoire.

Speaking via its X page, Multichoice tweeted:: “No gree for anybody! Watch all 52 matches of the #afcon2023 on
@supersports.”

AFCON 2023 kicks off on Saturday, 13 January 2024.

Three-time AFCON winners, Nigeria will face the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, and then Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea in Group A.

The Super Eagles, in their quest for a fourth continental title, will take on Equatorial Guinea on January 14 in their first match of Group A, before further clashes with host nation on January 18 and Guinea Bissau on January 22.
