Police in Cross River State have arrested a woman identified as Blessing Eno who allegedly killed her 11-month-old son.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Yonen community, Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The mother of two, who is feared to be suffering from mental illness, allegedly cut off the head of the child with a machete, saying the boy was disturbing her and a spirit instructed her to kill him.
According to reports, the woman’s eight-year-old son raised the alarm that attracted neighbours to the scene of the incident.

The police quickly took her into custody to prevent mob action.
While calling for calm, the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr LGA, HRM Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng, expressed shock over the incident, saying he had immediately convened an emergency meeting with his subjects to ensure that further bloodshed was averted.
“We are in shock, but we are calm and have left this matter in the hands of the police, I can assure you that there will be no reprisal action because we must remain law-abiding,” he stated.
Spokesperson of the police in Cross River, Irene Ugbo, said it was a homicide case and the matter has been transferred to the Homicide Department of the State CID for investigation.
